As we face the environmental problems posed by our ever-growing waste, including the changes in climate due to pollutants collecting in our atmosphere and health risks caused by leaching of chemicals into our water, our best strategy is to substantially reduce our waste stream. There are some obvious places to start—moving away from single use items for example. The next step is to look seriously at each item we buy, or each item we want to let go. What do we truly need? What cost does that item have to our environment? Is there a more environmentally prudent alternative? Below is a list of ideas to help reduce our waste.
