Plastic: Single Use Grocery Bags

Bags in good condition can be reused by Floyd Farmers Market vendors and by the New River Community Action Backpack Program. Plastic bags for reuse are accepted at SustainFloyd’s monthly Reuse/Recycle events. Bags in poor condition can be added to the plastic film collection at Food Lion, Kroger, or SustainFloyd’s monthly Reuse/Recycle events.

Preparation

Reusable plastic bags must be clean and dry with no tears or holes. Multiple bags should be  bundled together in one bag.

Alternatives

Reusable tote bags and baskets can used in place of single use paper or plastic grocery bags to conserve natural resources and to reduce materials going into the waste stream. Reusable tote bags can be purchased for a small fee from most grocery stores and from the Floyd Refillery. The Floyd Refillery also carries a small supply of free pre-used tote bags for use at the Farmers Market.
